West Ireland

Dun Aonghasa, Inis Mor
February is still winter-- damp, dark, cold, and unforgiving-- but that didn't stop me at all from planning a trip to the other side of the country. You see, when you say Ireland, the first thing that pops in my head (aside for Leprechauns and clover leaf and drunk people holding a pint of Guinness) will always be Westlife's music video of My Love. It features several locations in Ireland, but the most striking (and iconic) will always be the Cliffs of Moher.

The Cliffs of Moher
I went to Galway, specifically, for that.

... Dun Aonghasa in Inis Mor is just a bonus. We'd have to cross a portion of the Atlantic Sea just to get there, but it's definitely worth the effort (and the cold).

they call this the "edge of the world".
I don't see why they wouldn't, a thousand years ago.

We went to see the Kylemore Abbey too, but that kind of disappointed me because it was under construction when we visited. I was so psyched about it too because I wanted to take a really good photo of the exterior. :(

Kylemore Abbey
it's one of 'em expectations versus reality thingy. Heartbreaking.
The bus we took from Dublin to Galway was all pre-booked by the travel agency (Lally Tours, based in Galway); and all we had to do was show up on-time in meeting points. Accommodation isn't included, so I had to do that myself which suits me because I tend to be a little OCD when it comes to hotel location. Victoria Hotel in Galway City offers a decent room with breakfast buffet. I have no complaints with regards to my stay; however, I wouldn't be raving about it either (the place is rather outdated). I'd say it's adequate because it has everything that I need: located near the train/bus station and city center, clean bathroom and toilet, clean and fresh sheets and pillows, room is comfortably warm, there's privacy, well-secured, professional staff... yep.

Then again, it doesn't take much to please me.

Price is reasonably mid-range, so I recommend this for tourists who do not require too much attention, and aren't prone to annoying the staff. You know yourself. If you want high-end, go to Hotel Meyrick instead, or The Galmont. I can't vouch for them since I haven't been in there.

If you wish to book for a tour, visit the Lally Tours website.
