Ilocos Norte

Escapades of the Socially-Deprived

Ilocos Region
15 to 18 June 2012
--------------------------------------------

Yes, yes. I know it's been more than a year since I updated and went to this place but I've been... well, preoccupied. Better late than never, right?

The Groupie

If I remember it right, we left at around 11pm and reached Quezon City at around 12midnight to board a van that came with the tour package that Mary (a colleague and a very good friend of ours) contracted. It was actually her post-birthday celebration. :)

Now, considering that the vehicle was a Nissan Urvan, it was still packed and being the more adventurous person in the group, I decided to throw all cares away and sat on the floor and slept the hours away until we arrived at our destination.

So, Day 1, 16 June 2012...

We arrived at Vigan and had breakfast at one of the places there. Food was so-and-so but I thought we could have had something better for the price.

Then took some more pictures before we heading out to Playa Tropical. Now THAT place certainly did not disappoint. :D

see what I mean? :D
Took some more pictures, freshened-up, and headed out again for lunch. The next destination was Ferdinand E. Marcos Presidential Center.

For the name of the place itself, this was dedicated to the former president who was well-loved and equally well-hated by the population. Nothing much to see but bits and pieces of history and such, then we went out to buy sweets and other delicacies of the North. And pictures, of course. We can't forget that.

After that, we went straight to the famous Paoay Church, took the high-way and clowned-around the high-way, then reached our next destination which was the so-called Malacanang of the North.

The fun begins right after when we reached the Paoay Sand Dunes and rode a 4x4 truck to traverse the place. Stopped at a particular spot, and surfed the sand. Ian was the only one who managed to ride down successfully without falling off. Haha.

"Water!" :D

We took a detour in town to buy stuff for tonight's drinking session, all-the-while secretly planning a surprise thing for Mary. It wasn't that hard to plan it since there were more than 10 of us, and it would only take about three to distract Mary from finding out what's happening.

When we returned to Playa Tropical, the day was wrapped-up with a couple of liquor shots, several sabaw moments, and a (semi) surprise moment for the birthday girl.

Day 2, 17 June 2012

After breakfast, we went to see the lighthouse at Cape Bojeador and then to the Kapurpuruwan Rock Formation, where anyone's bound to get heatstroke. Haha. Clowned around under the heat of the sun and returned to our van to head for the next and much-anticipated location: The Bangui Windmills.

Yes, pictures.

Then after, we drove all the way to Pagudpud and stopped for a couple of minutes when we saw a group of kids taking a dive off the bridge and into a deep stream below. Being somewhat of a daredevil, Ian removed his shirt and took a dive in himself. That idiot. I'd say it was actually the most memorable part of the trip. :D

Ian, making The Jump

Upon reaching our destination in Pagudpud, we had lunch together and settled in the decent resort that was part of our tour contract. Now, aside for that impulsive-bridge-jumping-stunt that my friend, Ian, performed... I say the next memorable thing about this trip was when we all ran out in the rain and played with the puddles of mud together like a bunch of kids.

Then swam at the beach front for a couple of hours, thanking the heavens for the cool weather and funny, lovable companions/colleagues/friends from work.

At night, Mark, Rina and I played with our DSLRs and did a LOT of light art. It was well beyond 3am when Mark and I stopped fooling around to get some well-needed sleep.

Third and last day, 18 June 2012...

Early morning, we went to Baluarte. It was a zoo filled with animals, from butterflies to a live tiger. O_o I didn't get to see the tiger up-close but I did saw her from afar. :(

I took pity on the animals because they all seemed tired and harassed from all these tourists who wished to see them everyday.

The last leg of our tour was at Calle Crisologo, at The Vigan Heritage Site.

Picture, picture, pictures... and then headed back home for hospital duty. Hahaha.
